Small Pleasures for a Simple Girl

Few things in life give me as much joy as a comfy chair and a footstool to prop my legs up on. I think that’s probably true for 95% of the world’s population. That’s why I’m at this moment able to write a positive blog entry, because I’m currently nestled in a lovely smushy chair.

One of the benefits of my current job is flying frequently enough to gain a free membership to the Delta Sky Club. And let me tell you brother, it has been worth every hard earned frequent flyer mile! It’s full of fluffy chairs and ottomans, tasty appetizers and free booze. Yes, free. Yet another perk of diamond status. For as un-glamorous as business travel is (despite popular belief), this perk actually makes you feel somewhat like a rock star.

Today is a landmark day for me. I reached diamond status with Delta Airlines. It is a very hard earned status and I’m quite proud of myself for a) managing to not be involved in a wreck/hijacking and b) managing to not go completely postal on some unsuspecting soul in an airport. Interestingly enough, I reached my 140th flight segment of the year on the same flight path I first took two years ago when I accepted this job. CAK-ATL-XNA. Weird. And not a coincidence I think!

Why Fazoli’s is Awesome.

So I get to Omaha, and the first thing I see upon hitting the tarmac is snow. Lots of it. Now as a native snow bunny from the far northern reaches of arctic Ohio, this does not scare me. It does however make me crave comfort food. Which I found in the form of Fazoli’s baked spaghetti with meatballs. I dug in and immediately felt all the burdens of the day just roll off my shoulders. Well that might be a bit dramatic, but it did make me feel pretty darn cozy. It also helped having the world’s friendliest people serving me my food. I never take that for granted these days. As a road weary travel warrior, a friendly face and a pile of spaghetti make all the difference.

Bob Seger is speaking to me today since I’ll be quite literally on a “long and lonesome highway east of Omaha” this week. Apparently Omaha is a fun town, so we’ll see what I can find to get into.

“So…do you come to Milwaukee often?”

After a much needed week-long hiatus from traveling, I am once again back on the road. I was half expecting some dramatic event on my way to Milwaukee today, like getting pushed down the escalator at the airport or getting run down by some over zealous tourist, but thankfully, it was an uneventful trip. The week is still young however, and I’m sure I’ll have some fun/interesting/creepy stories to post during my visit to the frozen north. Go Packers. Literally everyone up here is wearing something Packer related. Or Viking hatred related. Gotta love football season.

It’s Miller Time!!

I went on the Miller/Coors plant tour in Milwaukee this afternoon, and wow. Now I’ve been on my fair share of plant tours, but this particular brewery does it up right! Free samples of their many beers, free postcards that they send for you, free beer coasters..basically everything you could want and then some. Next time you find yourself in Milwaukee with a free hour or so, stop in for the free tour. And ask for Patti. Best tour guide ever!
